Can you name the toy surrounding an urban
legend that several intelligence agencies banned these from their offices?
It's the Furby, of course. This cuddly robot made
by Tiger Electronics debuted during the holiday season of 1998. The
Furby spoke its own language when new, Furbish, but gradually
learned English over time. It was this "learning" ability that got
it into trouble with the National Security Agency, which banned
these cute little devils from the building. Doh! To read the CNN
story about the Furby national security risk, check the
CNN story published in January of 1999. In the three 3 years
following its initial launch, over 40 million Furby units were sold.
