01.31.11: Q: Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego? A: Facebook. (Duh!)
And how about watching the WITWICS kid's TV game show on PBS? I spent many afternoons fighting crime with the gumshoe contestants, although my geography skills were always lacking. (I could never remember the location of all the countries in Africa like this kid.) My favorite part of the show was the vocal harmonies and comedic antics of Rockapella. They were da bomb! After a decade in hiding, Blue Fang is bringing back the elusive trench coat and fedora wearing thief with an updated look for Facebook (check out the trailer below). This newest version of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? will drop Wednesday February 9th. I know I can't wait to flex my detective skills once again. Can you? Acme, this agent is ready to be reinstated! *me singing* ... "Well she sneaks around the world from Kiev to Carolina. She's a sticky fingered filcher from Berlin down to Belize. She'll take you for a ride on a slow boat to China. Tell me Where in the World is Caremen Sandiego?" > Visit the Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? Facebook page for all the 411

In 2005 Rich Cronin, front man for the boy band LFO (or the Lyte Funky Ones), was diagnosed with leukemia. In an interview with The Boston Globe in 2005, Rich discussed when he learned he was first sick: "I just know that four hours before I got that phone call [from the doctor] I was just some dude with mono, then all of a sudden I was a cancer patient." After going into remission in 2006, the cancer flared up again this summer and he was admitted to the hospital for treatment. Yesterday afternoon (September 8th), Rich suffered a heart attack and died at the age of 35. LFO got their start in 1995, but rose to fame in 1999 with their song "Summer Girls." Prior to their success, their label (BMG Records) had the trio touring in Europe and playing music that wasn't exactly their style, in hopes to build a fan base. After getting fed up with the label telling LFO how to dress, act and what to sing, Rich was just about to call it quits on the band when "Summer Girls" exploded on the radio. While reminiscing with The Boston Globe about their hit song, Rich said, "I just thought back to when I was young, happy, no worries. 'Summer Girls' was all about a summer on the Cape. Inside jokes. I never thought that anyone besides my close friends would ever hear it." Well luckily for LFO and the rest of the world, we did. Teenage girls everywhere (and anyone within earshot of a radio) knew the lyrics to the catchy tune. "Summer Girls" spent a whopping 17 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at No. 3. And in 2010 Billboard magazine named it the 16th biggest summer song of all-time.
Glee's Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch), the sharp-tongued cheerleader coach you love to hate, stars in her very own shot-for-shot version of the material girl's 1990 hit "Vogue." This music video is part of next week's all material girl episode entitled "The Power of Madonna." Other Madonna classics to be featured include "Like a Virgin," "Express Yourself," and "Like a Prayer." The Madge inspired episode airs Tuesday at 9/8c on FOX. Be sure to set your TiVos! You won't want to miss it.
03.22.10: 90s Celebrities take on Dancing with the Stars
If you were even remotely in tune with the 90s you've heard of both these stars. Shannen Doherty played troubled teen Brenda Walsh on the hit show Beverly Hills, 90210 and as one of the "charmed ones," Prue Halliwell, on the WB's witch show Charmed. Doherty is also known for her roles in the the 1988 film Heathers and the 1995 movie Mallrats. The mere mention of Pamela Anderson and everyone's brains instantly pull up a picture of her running down a beach in slow motion, sporting an orange-red one-piece and carrying a life preserver, thanks to her role as C.J. Parker on Baywatch. And if you were a fan of Home Improvement, you'll remember her as Lisa, the original "Tool Time Girl." Thanks to her role on Baywatch (and being a Playboy Playmate), Pamela has become an international sex symbol and is even noted in the Guinness Book of World Records as the "most downloaded" star. For the competition, Shannen will be dancing with 2-time professional champion, Marc Ballas, who brought home the mirror ball trophy with figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi (season 6) and gymnist Shawn Johnson (season 8). Pamela is paired with newcomer Damian Whitewood, a Latin and Ballroom specialist from Australia. Do Shannen and Pamela have what it takes to shake their groove thang and snag the coveted mirror ball? Or will they have two left feet? Tune in tonight (and every Monday) at 8/7c to see how the 90s stars fair. And don't forget to vote to show these two some 90s love! > Visit the official Dancing with the Stars website

02.03.10: "Whoa!"...The 90s are back on ABC Family ABC Family recently announced a new comedy called Melissa & Joey. It will star none other than 90s TV favs Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Clarissa Explains It All) and Joey Lawrence (Blossom). The new series is set to premiere later this year.
The new show finds Hart portraying Mel, the grown-up former wild child of a political family who is now a local politician herself. When her sister ends up in prison and brother-in-law flees after a scandal hits, Mel must take responsibility for her teenaged niece Lennox and pre-adolescent nephew Ryder. Spread too thin to manage by herself, help comes in the unlikely form of Joe (Lawrence) who, desperate for a job, moves in and becomes the family's "manny." Hmm ... Kinda has a Who's the Boss feel, doesn't it? Hart & Lawrence previously stared together in the ABC Family's original movie, My Fake Fiancé, in which they were said to have "awesome chemistry." Will they be able to duplicate it? Will they bring back the 90s flavor we miss so much? Guess we'll just have to watch and see.
